{February 26, 2009}   I’m Superman

From Superman: The Animated Series

Lois: I’m confused Kent…see, I’ve lived in Metropolis most of my life and I can’t figure out how some yokel from Smallville is suddenly getting every hot story in town…

Clark: Well Lois, the truth is I’m actually Superman in disguise and I only pretend to be a journalist in order to hear about disasters as they happen and then squeeze you out of the byline.

Lois: …you’re a sick man Kent.

Clark: You asked.

{February 9, 2009}   Living Your Life

Dr. Jules Hilbert: You were right. This narator might very well kill you, so Harold may I suggest you just forget all of this? Go live your life!

Harold Crick: Live my life? I am living my life. I’d like to continue to live my life.

Dr. Jules Hilbert: I know, of course. I mean all of it. However long it have left, you know. I mean Harold, you can use it to have an adventure, you know, invent something, or just finish reading Crime and Punishment. Hell Harold, you could just eat nothing but pancakes if you want.

Harold Crick: What is wrong with you? Hey, I don’t want to eat nothing but pancakes, I want to live! I mean, who in their right mind in a choice between pancakes and living chooses pancakes?

Dr. Jules Hilbert: Harold, if you pause to think, you’d realize that that answer is inextricably contingent upon the type of life being led… and, of course, the quality of the pancakes.

Dr. Jules Hilbert: You don’t understand what I’m saying?

Harold Crick: Yes, I do.

Harold Crick: You have to understand, this isn’t a philosophy, or a literary theory or a story to me. It’s my life!

Dr. Jules Hilbert: Absolutely! So just go make it the one you’ve always wanted.
